The latest installment from Trancelucent and this time its an artist album in the shape of Cosmic Tone. 8 new tracks from the duo who here have produced some superb minimal come progressive trance. That said there are many moments where the sound is full and powerful. It all begins with 'Hard To Open' which sets the mystical mood for the album and before you know it the time has come to set off with some pushy progressive bass. Emotional backdrops stand still whilst the sound floats around. Like most of the album it is friendly and easy going trance that mildly teases your senses in a soft but funky way. Track2 is called 'Total Lust' and like the title suggests this is a passionate track. Deeper now with and eerie sample to add spice. Bongo patting is beautiful as the music continues forward swirling near to industrial noises but never getting to near for it to become a nuisance or for it to get in the way. Trippy croaky and far from intense its simple patterns making sounds easy to focus on and also somehow making them very distinctive. Track3 is called 'Mukambaru' and it provides a small uplifting start and what seems a phatter bassline. Nice and pushy cruise through welcoming sounds with melodies that reach out to pull you further in. What got me the most is the breakdown and its ambient silence veering to a slight tribal feel. Progressive layers build warmly formed sounds and signals. Track4 is 'Human' and the bass does put out as everything builds gradually. A couple of different mood swings giving more deep progression. Sly acidic melodies bubble away but even they sound very inviting. This is great as its also very danceable with plenty to get in to along the way. Track5 is 'Cosmic Tone' and its a good kick with simple bassline. This is more minimal but at the same time those emotional uplifting waves fly by and brighten everything up. Again I thought the breakdown was pretty special with a good chant-like cry for attention. Those nice floaty bongos drums help to give it a warming feeling that is easily soaked up if you get close enough. Track6 is called 'Love Expression' which contains some "chuckawakawucka" noises in shaft style. A strong pumper with decent building blocks that are all put in position very delicately. Cosmic Tone will embrace you with their outstanding emotional sounds. On this one I'm sure there is a sound used that is similar to Space Cats Power Up and although the two tracks are light years apart my attention was drawn to it. This one moves and floats like unburst bubbles. Track7 is 'Stress Pill' which snaps in with ploddy stompy bass. Squelchy floor feeling with a calm center. Funky trippy, a slight minimal middle but these sharp sounds tear through until it really gets going. This is one that all the sounds fit together like a jigsaw puzzle where each piece has its own effective place. Just as you think it might all be over you will be put straight back inside this captivating and emotional sound that Cosmic Tone appear to be masters of. A huge journey. We finish with 'Not Like That At All'. I thought this one would be just a chillout track but I was totally wrong. This is so much more as it is sharp and alert. Emotional high frequencies envelope the sound which is delivered as usual in a friendly positive way. Good twangy echoing melody guides us to the end. Another lengthy journey that was worth it! To be honest this type of trance I prefer to chill to and for that purpose for me it is perfect. These guys can certainly make music and if you like progressive this will probably be to your taste. Cosmic Tone have produced in Overwhelming a trance album that seems to have an organic flow. It is a progressive offering where the psychedelic is spliced in through the atmosphere that it creates. Underlying it all though is a strong Flying Rhinoesque bass growl that speaks volumes about the underworld it is exploring. FB
