More full on from the TIP.World crew...

TIP.World has lost a lot of their quality lately, so now they try out a new chapter in their old colour series. Or actually, this colour series was on the legendary TIP Records label. We got the Yellow one, the Blue one, the Orange one and the Phosphorecent one. Now, many years later we finally get the Red one. The cover art is the same old "TIP head" which is really cool, but what about the music? When I first took a look at the track list, I was very surprised to find the names The Infinity Project and Hallucinogen on the first line, so I had to get my hands on this one.

Red (TIP.World) 2004 (TIPWCD035)

1. The Infinity Project – Stimuli (Hallucinogen Remix)
2. Nissimyani Vs. The Melovskys – Fir Cough (A Raja Ram & Lucas Mix)
3. Logic Bomb – Datalinks (Remix)
4. The Inner Visions - #1
5. Astrix – Junosis
6. Sub6 – Program Flies
7. Dynamic Vs. Z-Machine – Energy
8. Xerox & Psy Craft – Adrenalin Rush (Melicia Remix)
9. Black & White – Froid
10. 1200 Mics – Mescaline (Live On Mount Fuji Remix)

First out is the old classic Stimuli track by The Infinity Project, originally released on a CD single on Paul Oakefolds label Perfecto Fluoro in 1995, but also on TIPs Feeling Weird album. A fantastic track that still is good enough for todays parties. Here we get a new version, which is a remix done by Hallucinogen! This version is very good, but I think the original was so good that it wasn’t need for any remix of it. Anyway, it is nice to hear a track like this again. Then we leave the old masters, and jump over to new, modern full on Israeli trance. Track 2 is sort of two different tracks remixed into one track. The original tracks were made by Nissimyani and The Melovskys, but here we get a remix done by Raja Ram and TIP.Worlds new label dj, Lucas. It starts off with guitar and voice samples. Then we jump over to a full on bass line and some cheesy synth sounds. In my ears, really bad full on. Track 3 is the track called Datalinks by Logic Bomb. This track was originally released on their album Unlimited on TIP.World in 2002. Here we get a slightly different version, but you can’t hear much difference. I prefer the original, and I don’t feel that I needed another version of this track. Track 4 is by someone called The Inner Visions, which are Shanti (Juvenile) and Cyrus The Virus. This is something for those who are after the full on sound of GMS. As I have written before, I’m a bit tired of this style. This sounds like tons of tracks I have heard before by GMS.

Track 5 is a new track by Astrix (Avi Shmailov) who is one of the biggest stars on the full on marked in Israel, but also in many other parts of the world. He gives us a typical full on Israeli track. Drifting full on bass line and some melodic breaks now and then. The melody we get in the middle of this track sounds way to cheesy in my ears. Track 6 is by two brothers (Sub6) from Israel who is about to do it really well on the full on marked too. They will release their debut album on Hommega Productions this year. Here we get another taste of their sound. They sure have a bit different sound. It sort of reminds me of some of the latest tracks by Infected Mushroom, but with a very different vibe. They sure like to put vocals and metallic vibes into their tracks. Track 7 is a collaboration between Dynamic and someone called Z-Machine. Dynamic made great success with their debut album Dynamix on Phonokol Records last year. This track is one of the better tracks on this compilation. Full on Israeli trance, but not with the cheesy parts that we get in most of the other tracks on this compilation. Track 8 is a collaboration between two of the veterans in the full on scene, Xerox and Psy Craft. These Israelis has been in the scene from the beginning, but the track they serve us here doesn’t impress me much. Totally full on, with some simple, ugly guitar that ruins the track for me. I like some guitar in trance now and then, but this kind of guitar is just simple. Track 9 is by someone called Black & White (Samuel Valerstien and Yaniv Biton). Another Israeli duo, giving us their full on. This is some of the worst full on I have heard. Reminds me a bit of the Skazi style with those cheesy hard house sounds all the way. The last track we get on this compilation is a live version of the Mescaline track by 1200 Mics. A classic track, but again, I didn’t feel like I needed another version of this one either.

I wonder why TIP.World goes this direction? Maybe this kind of full on sells more records, but in the end it is pretty sad that this label that once were really great, has fallen as deep as this. On this compilation we get two good tracks (which has been released long time ago), and the rest is just average tracks…

Stimuli was originally released on TIP001 in 1994, and not on perfecto in '95. The 1995 release was the original along with a remix by Man With No Name and was ofcourse also simultaneously released on a 12" single. More info can be found on discogs (or by flipping through my record collection ;-)

I agree with the above by the way - this is truly a very shameful way of trying to use a classic "brand" - the only person from the original TIP crew involved in TIP.World is raja ram, and in my opinion, he has time and again proven that he isn't exactly an oracle of good taste... TIP.World is a completely different label that merely borrowed some of the name and aesthetics from its predecessor. I wish they would let TIP rest in peace.

I can't help imagining how this would have been recieved if everything sounded more like track 1 (oldschool style/vibes with fresh, modern production). I'm pretty sure it would have been a storming success, but as with many other labels, they choose the tried and tested (and painfully boring) path. Shame on you, TIP.World.
for shame :(

indeed after listeing to this I can only confirm the general feeling: the remix of Stimuli is great, listening to real oldschool after all these years brings tears to my eyes. As for the Datalinks remix... well, to say the truth I never was into Locig Bomb, I know they sound different but I wouldn't say they sound GOOD. Anyway, it's nice to hear some variation to the typical israeli sound. I also enjoyed the 1200 Mics remix, in spite what everyone says I DON'T find the first 1200 Mics album as "just another GMS project", I find it really had a lot of variation and interesting ideas. So as a fan of the original Mescaline I liked what they did here... As for the rest... HORRIBLE!!! Israeli clones everywhere, no style, no substance, just the usual "random noises till minute 5 then bassline stops, catchy melody enters, bassline picks up again, then fade away after about 1 minute" formula which I can't stand anymore since it's used in like 99% of the psy songs made today!! So this compilation really feels like a scam: people rush and buy it mainly because of the first track and discover that there's nothing much except that... And what really pisses me off is that with this comp, TIP records totally killed off the legend which is the TIP Colour series!!! For shame!!! Imagine Rolls Royce started putting The Spirit of Extacy and the double R symbol on VW Golfs and try telling people that the car is the logical continuation in the line of Rolls Royces... Well that's kinda how it feels when you buy this comp... 2/10
u seem to forget something
