Ari Linker is back with his fourth album...

Alien Project (Ari Linker) is out with his fourth album. He has previously released two albums on Phonokol and one album on TIP.World. Now he is releasing another album on TIP.World with a pretty cheesy cover art…

Alien Project "Don’t Worry, Be Groovy!" TIP.World 2004 (TIPWCD034)

1. Magic
2. Groovy
3. Who Has The Marijuana?
4. I remember The First Time
5. One Good (Remix)
6. Fantasy
7. Secret
8. Nitro Punch
9. Rapiginio

Alien Project was one of the first Israeli artists to start making this heavy, rolling trance, which so many other acts has followed the last couple of years. But he hasn’t changed much since his first album. First out is a pretty dark track with that heavy rolling bass line we have got a lot of from him on his albums. Strong beats, but not so interesting melodies and sounds as we get in Crunchy Punch tracks etc. Track 2 is made together with Raja Ram. This track has a more pumping rhythm drift and some guitar sounds that sounds pretty cheesy and simple to me. You also get a little bit of flute in there, probably done by Raja Ram, but in my ears these guitars ruins the track. Track 3 has the same heavy rolling full on vibe as most of his other tracks. But away from that, those voice samples with “who has got the marijuana now” sounds pretty stupid to me. Not that humorous is it? Also the melodies in this sounds really cheesy.

Track 4 has a bit more jumpy vibe with more jumpy psychedelic sounds. But here we get that voice sample that say “I remember the first time I smoke DMT”, which is used before by 1200 Mics! Why use that one again, especially when the original is so much better? Track 5 is a track called One Good, which was originally released on his third album Aztechno Dream (TIP.World 2002). Here we get a remix he has done of this track. This track is better than the previous tracks on this album, but I don’t think it’s better than the original. Track 6 is made together with Oforia (Ofer Dikovsky). This tracks sounds a bit more drifting, and is definitely better than most of the other tracks on this album, but it doesn’t sound very impressive, and it could easily have been a bit more varied. Track 7 has some funny samples of laughter. Away from that, this has the same rolling bass line as most of his other tracks. Track 8 is made together with Orion (Jean Borelli), which he does the Crunchy Punch project with. They just released a Crunchy Punch album (Maximum Velocity) together on Solstice Music. This track is my favourite track on this album. We get a more psychedelic vibe as soon as Orion is involved. The last track we get here is also among the better ones on this album. You get the typical Alien Project groove, but not the cheesy parts, and the melody here is pretty funny.

In my opinion we didn’t need another album from Alien Project sounding like this. Here is not much development from his three other albums…

Very un-creative album. 3/10

Nothing new in here...
Many re-used synth sounds and fx that sound exactly as they did on his earlier albums.

Cheesy use of samples.
Many samples have been used by other artists which is fine, but at least use some variation to make it less obvious, for god's sake.

Guitar samples already used by Astrix and Talamasca, DMT sample used by 1200 mics and I think I've also heard the "Nitro" sample somewhere.

I hope the "South Park" Marijuana sample will not be used in the next album, again!!!

Production quality is good, but that's no reason to buy the album.
