Lemurians is back with a new album on Shiva Space Technology...

Jan Osh Riemann and Andreas Kuchenbauer are out with their second album on Shiva Space Technology. They are based in Germany and Norway. I always thought their name Lemurians was taken from a dessert animal in Africa, but inside the cover of this release we get another, quite interesting explanation.

First out is a very dramatic track. It starts with some totally dark sounds, before some heavy beats starts pumping together with a beautiful floating sound. Groovy rhythms and a nice float. Track 2 sounds more weird, and keeps the dark, dramatic vibe. After a while an intense, almost nagging sound come into the track. This doesn’t sound like my cup of tea. I get some sort of hard house feeling out of it. But after that, the track gets better, and the melody is pretty good. Track 3 is a bit more melodic. This is definitely my favourite track on the album so far. Heavy, stumpy groove and nice psychedelic sounds swirling in and out. A deep and floating vibe. You get some of those hard house riffs in here too, but it doesn’t ruin the track. This track become totally full on. Track 4 is another stumpy track, with some really kicking beats and sounds. This one is pretty intense all the way through. Massive, pushing full on trance. A bit weirder than the usual full on tracks these days, but definitely more interesting.

Track 5 is a rolling, heavy track. Here they have put in some atmospheric breaks, weird voice samples, and it has a very drifting vibe all the way through. Nice one. Track 6 starts rolling from the first second. This track gives me some of this hard house feeling again. A bit simple repetitive sounds above the heavy beats. Track 7 is definitely better. This is actually my favourite track on this album. Here we get more variation of psychedelic, twisted sounds. This is also more melodic. Track 8 is more drifting again, with even more weird vibes. Pretty cool track with a lot of nice variation. I was hoping for a chilled, relaxing track at the end here, but instead we get an intense trance track, very inspired by the hard house sounds that I’m not too happy about. But it seems like several artists has thrown themselves on these vibes lately. Just take a listen to the latest album by Dino Psaras (Lick It).

Lemurians deliver an album with some pretty good tracks here. This sounds definitely more interesting than their first album, so they have obviously developed their style since then. The hard house vibes could have been avoided in my opinion, but away from that, an okay album.
