Liquid Sound Design releases another excellent compilation...

Dragonflys side label Liquid Sound Design (LSD) is definitely one of my favourite chill labels out there. Now they are out with a new compilation, this time full of remixes of mostly already released tracks. I’m usually a bit sceptical to remixes of classic tracks, but when they do it in a good way like here, it’s okay. It is compiled by Humphrey.

Wider Horizons (Liquid Sound Design/Dragonfly Records) 2004 (BFLCD70)

1. Tripswitch – Silver (Ott Remix)
2. Drum Druid – Last Summer Dub (Abakus Remix)
3. Nada – Manakhana (Youth Remix)
4. United States Of Love – Tiger Moon (Vatos Locos Remix)
5. Kumba Mela Experiment – Elephant Trax (Vibrasphere Remix)
6. Ott – Escape From Tulse Hell (Tripswitch Remix)
7. Nada – Earthgarden (Abakus Remix)

First out is a track by Tripswitch (Nick Brennan), here remixed by no other than Ott. This track was originally released on the Butterfly Dawn compilation that came out on Liquid Sound Design last year. The original was great, but this remix done by Ott is even better! Ott sure knows how to make a good remix and put in a lot of his typical sound. That was probably best shown on the Hallucinogen In Dub album… This track is totally relaxing, with a fluffy, happy vibe. Relaxed dub with beautiful melodies, sounds and piano. Fantastic! Track 2 by Drum Druid (Jeremy Van Kempen) was originally released on the Elucidations compilation on Liquid Sound Design 2002. Here we get a beautiful remix done by Abakus (Russell Davies). We get a mystic vibe, with relaxing drums, dubby bass, floating sounds and beautiful melodies. Definitely one of the best chill out tracks I have ever heard. Track 3 is by Nada (Russell Davies and Humphrey Bacchus). This one was originally released on the Butterfly Dawn compilation. Here we get a remixed version done by Youth himself. This one is more pure dub style, with deep, dubby rhythms and bass. They have also added a lot of nice tribal drums which makes it totally relaxed. I really love these drums!

Track 4 is by someone called United States Of Love, which is actually a collaboration between Youth and Michael Kang. Here we get a remix done by Vatos Locos, which is a collaboration between Doof (Nick Barber), Earthling (Celli Firmi) and Xavier Flux. This track is more inspired by reggae dub, mixed with some Indian sitar, drums, electronic sounds and melodies. Pretty happy track with a summer vibe. Then we get a track I have heard a lot before, done by a collaboration of many artists, gathered by Youth himself, called The Kumba Mela Experiment This was originally released on the East Of The River Ganges album in 2001. Here we get a remix by Vibrasphere (Rickard Berglöf and Robert Elster) from Sweden. Vibrasphere make mostly progressive trance music, but has released a few really strong chill out tracks too. The version we get here is more dubby than the original. Not bad at all! Track 6 is by Ott. This one was originally released on his album Blumenkraft on Twisted Records 2002, and on the Butterfly Dawn compilation. Here we get a relaxed remix by Tripswitch (Nick Brennan). Totally chilling, beautiful version of this great track. These guys sure know how to relax us! The last track on this compilation is another one by Nada. This one was also released on the Butterfly Dawn compilation. Here we get a remix by Abakus (Russell Davies, which is one half of Nada). This was one of my absolute favourite chill out tracks last year. I really hope Nada will release more tracks like this. The remix is not bad either. Very different, and incredibly beautiful. Floating with a relaxed dubby rhythm. I really love the female voice in this track.

This compilation is surprisingly good! Pure quality all the way through. The remixes is done in a good way, so that they aren’t superfluous compared to the original versions. Recommended!
