Enzyme Records releases their first compilation...

Here comes a new fresh label based in the UK with their first compilation called Ancient Future. It is compiled by Vasco Zorflux, who is one half of Horizon.

Ancient Future (Enzyme Records) 2004 (ENZYMECD001)

1. Horizon – First Flight
2. Dynamic – Alien Craft
3. Green Ohms – Jack In The Box
4. Bizzare Contact – Ice Age
5. Horizon – Open Your Eyes
6. Jumanji – Jew Know What I Mean
7. Horizon – Turn It To Dust
8. Mindfield + Cosmosis – Psycho Problem (Remix)
9. Triptych – Spectral Visions

First out is a collaboration called Horizon between Junya Eskimo and Vasco Zorflux himself. Eskimo is a young upcoming artist who released his debut album (Can You Pick Me Up?) on Phantasm Records last year. The track we get here isn’t among the best I have heard from them. Full on trance all the way through. Massive, rolling rhythms and pretty industrial psychedelic sounds, but not very melodic. It could have been a bit more original, but away from that, an okay full on track. Track 2 is by an Israeli band, Dynamic (Shay Alamanyes and Ben Avital), which surprised many with their debut album Dynamix on Phonokol Records last year. Their tracks were played on every psytrance festival in the world last year. Here they give us a new track. Typical full on Israeli trance. Melodic and pretty varied, with heavy rolling rhythms. That’s probably the reason why people appreciated their album so much too. Here we also get a lot of “alien” samples, which should please the masses. Track 3 is by a collaboration between Dick Trevor (The Green Nun) and John Ohm, but here we get a remix done by Horizon. This is a pretty massive full on track, with a dark vibe. Not very melodic and the full on sound could have been a bit more original.

Then we get a track by an upcoming duo in Israel called Bizarre Contact (Didy Ezra and Kfir Lankry). They follow the typical full on sound as the others on this compilation. This track is pretty drifting and trancey, but again I miss some more creativity. Track 5 is another track by Horizon. This one starts with a mystic floating sound and some nice tribal drums, before a voice sample bring us into the heavy rolling bass line again. This track is actually my favourite track on this compilation. Some twisted sounds, and a deep groove. Nice one. Track 6 is another side project (Jumanji) by Eskimo, here together with Dick Trevor. This track has a dark, almost scary vibe. It builds up slowly, but doesn’t have much variation. The rhythm drift is pretty cool, and we get some tribal voice samples in the middle of the track. Track 7 is also by Horizon. It starts off with some voice samples and sounds from the jungle, before the heavy beats hits back. The rest of the track goes totally full on with some refreshing sounds and melodies now and then. Some of the sounds are pretty crunchy and cool too. Track 8 is by two of my favourite artists, Mindfield (John Ford) and Cosmosis (Bilbo Baggins). This is the classic Psycho Problem track originally released on Phantasm Records, but in a new remixed version. Personally I prefer the original, but this one doesn’t sound bad either. The last track on this compilation is by Triptych (Charles Michaud) who has released quite a lot of tracks lately, including his debut album Lost Paradises on Turbo Trance Records last year. The track we get here is not on the album. He has his own way of doing it, with a funky vibe and a lot of variation of sounds and melodies. Not a bad finish on this compilation.

This compilation sure isn’t for those who doesn’t like full on psytrance, but if you do like it, maybe you should check this out. Always interesting with new labels too…
