Deedrah "Body & Soul"

Top level Music reviews

Review by PKS
Dado is back, this time as Deedrah on Solstice Music and Spun Records...

Frederic Holyszewski is out with his third Deedrah album, this time on Solstice Music in Japan and on Spun Records in the rest of the world. After seeing his live show at the Arvika Festival in Sweden this summer, I have really been looking forward to this. Dado sure is one of the most talented psytrance artists out there, something he has proved by a lot of different projects and music styles. One of his better works is the Synthetic album 100% Pure he released on Solstice Music last year. A fantastic, pretty experimental album, where he took psytrance to another level. His Deedrah project is more regular psytrance, but he sure does it in a good way.

Deedrah "Body & Soul" Spun Records 2003 (SPUNCD08)

1. Body And Soul
2. Slinky And Stinky
3. Goa Sunrise
4. Waveburner
5. Groove Shadow
6. Hellsoniq
7. A Short Cut To Mushrooms
8. Pampampampam
9. Purplestar

The first track starts with a voice sample and some floating sounds, before a totally deep, groovy rhythm starts rolling. Nice track that builds up. Some atmospheric floating sounds come in together with some psychedelic sounds, and after a while a melody comes slowly into the track. Nice one. Track 2 is a real stumper, with heavy bass lines and typical full on vibes. This one become really melodic after a couple of minutes. Reminds me a bit of GMS, but this is deeper and not as nagging. Track 3 is one of my favourite tracks on this album. It builds up slowly, it’s very drifting and the melodies reminds me of old school goa trance. It actually sounds a bit like old X-Dream tracks, but in a new way! Track 4 is one of the most pumping, hard tracks on this album. A fast, full on track, with atmospheric sounds and psychedelic sounds jumping in and out of the track. This also reminds me a bit of X-Dream (Radio). Track 5 starts with chilled relaxing sounds. Very beautiful. Then comes the heavy rolling rhythms back on track and drifting melodies swirls in. Good quality full on sound. The melodies might sound a bit cheesy sometimes, but I think it’s pretty good.

Track 6 (Hellsoniq) was also released on the Zero-1 compilation, but as a remix by Shanti Matkin. I prefer this original version of the track. Full on rolling trance with nice variation of sounds and great melodies. Track 7 is also one of my favourites on this album. It starts off with some weird samples and scary sounds, before some heavy, stumpy rhythms starts pushing. The melodies come into the track slowly. After a while we get some funny breaks and variation, which makes this track different from most other full on tracks within this style. Track 8 is the only chill out track on this album. Pretty nice track, but it could have been a bit more varied. For sure relaxing, with dubby rhythms and weird sounds. The last track on this album starts pretty weird. First you get a voice sample. Then it goes a couple of seconds before the actual track starts. This track is not as full on as the rest of the trance tracks on this album. It has some really beautiful sounds and melodies. It reminds me a bit of The Antidote and the GBU style. Somewhere between progressive trance and full on. Nice finish on the album.

This album is really great! If you like the Synthetic album (100% Pure), you will probably like this one too. Great quality full on music. You can actually hear that this guy has used some time in the studio to come up with something refreshing. Dado always takes it one step further. Recommended!
