TIP.World tries again, this time nine tracks compiled by dj Lucas...

TIP.World seems to have lost it lately. Now they try again with a compilation compiled by dj Lucas who is their new label dj. Dj Lucas O’Brien has also compiled a CD for Flying Rhino Records before they went bankrupt…

Reefer Madness (TIP.World Records) 2003 (TIPWCD031)

1. Dickster – Dizzy Drops
2. Bamboo Forest – Parallel
3. Orion – Activity
4. Sybarite – Mint Condition
5. Pixel Vs. Wrecked Machines – Help The Situation
6. Aphid Moon Vs. Lucas – Ok People
7. T.C.D. – We Can Still Make A Change
8. E-Jekt – Afrikan Nightmare
9. Logic Bomb – Hazy Mazy Cave

The first track by Dickster (Dick Trevor) is a totally dark, heavy stumper. Minimal trance, with totally groovy, pushing rhythms, and a few psychedelic sounds echoing in the background. Pretty cool night time music. Track 2 is by Bamboo Forest (Stephane Dureisseix and Yann Henaff) who released their first album this year on Vision Productions in Japan. Here they deliver a great track as usual. Hypnotic full on trance with great melodies. Track 3 is by Orion (Jean Borelli) who also released an album this year (his third album Artificial Frequencies on Solstice Music). The track we get here is not on the album. Great as always from this guy. Drifting, dark, full on trance with several twisted melodies and highly psychedelic sounds. So far a pretty good compilation, but then things take another direction…

Track 4 is by Lucas himself and another guy (Ric Featherstone). Together they call themselves Sybarite. This is full on, but in a minimal, pretty boring way if you ask me. Then we get a track by Pixel and Wrecked Machines in a collaboration. Minimal, dark, stumpy trance. It gets boring pretty fast. Please ad some more sounds or melodies! Track 6 is a collaboration between Lucas himself and Aphid Moon (Jules Hamer) who released his debut album on Dragonfly Records earlier this year. This goes the same direction. Minimal, fast trance. The only thing you get is a fat bassline, but I want more! Then we get a collaboration between dj Dede, Celli Firmi (Earthling) and Thomas Dubreuil (Altom). Together they call themselves T.C.D. This is very Altom style. Heavy rolling rhythms and not much melodies. I think we have got too much of this style lately. Track 8 is by E-Jekt (Nir Shoshani) who has started releasing quite a lot lately. This guy has a killer bassline, but not much more. The last track is a new track by Swedish Logic Bomb (Johan Krafft and Jonas Pettersson). This track is the worst Logic Bomb track I have ever heard. I love Logic Bomb, but this is just ugly! A totally simple, ugly melody and the rest sounds pretty minimal. Let’s hope this is not a style they will continue making.

This compilation is just another one of several disappointing releases from TIP.World lately. What is happening with this label? It has gone from being one of the best labels out there, to releasing a lot of bad tracks. The three first tracks you get here is good, the rest is tracks the artists could have done much more out of.
