Bamboo Forest "Bamboo Forest"

Finally, after years of waiting, Bamboo Forest releases their first album on Vision Productions in Japan...

Bamboo Forest (Yann Henaff and Stephane Dureisseix) are veterans in the psytrance scene, and they have released a ton of tracks on a lot of different compilations on many different labels, but they have never released any albums! But, finally! Now they have released their debut album. This album was supposed to be released on Flying Rhino Records last year, but Flying Rhino went bankrupt, so the only ones who got their hands on the album at that time, was those who were lucky enough to get a promotion copy. Now, one year later, the Japanese label Vision Productions is releasing the album for the rest of us.

After seeing these guys live two times at Samothraki Dance Festival, I have really been looking forward to their album. I think they have developed their sound the last couple of years, and they sure rocked the festival… First out is an atmospheric, drifting trance track with several really nice psychedelic sounds. It builds up and become more and more melodic. Cool samples and great drift. One of several favourite tracks on this album. Track 2 is darker and more stumpy. The sounds are more rough, and we get less melodies. Track 3 starts floating, before we are back in a drifting groove again. We get some cool voice samples, it builds up, and sounds pretty massive. A real party track. Track 4 is a track many of you probably have heard at several festivals. A track called Breath, with some really beautiful female vocals and great melodies. This track balances between almost too cheesy and full on sound. Personally I love this track, and I have played it myself at party. It sort of lightens up a party if you put it on between a full on set. A classic!

Track 5 sounds more mystic and dark. This is a banging track with several really trancey sounds. Very psychedelic and drifting as always from these guys. Track 6 is the fastest track on the album (148 bpm). Here you get jumpy sounds and really full on vibes. Great party track! Track 7 is one of my definite favourite tracks on this album. It reminds me a bit of older goa, but for sure in a much more modern way. A heavy track, with totally cool melodies, stumpy rhythms and twisted sounds. Track 8 has some tribal voice samples and sitar. Definitely the most tribal track on this album. After a while the track sounds really tripped out, with great sounds and a fantastic drift only Bamboo Forest is able to make. Track 9 is not as varied, but has the usual Bamboo Forest drift and several spaced out sounds. They finish the album with a beautiful chilled track. Very dubby and relaxing with a mystic vibe. Great finish on the album.

Bamboo Forest delivers a great debut album with their own unique style. Great album for home listening and for partying. Recommended!
