Crystal Matrix Records is a fresh new label, now releasing their first compilation called Soul Awakening.
Soul Awakening (Crystal Matrix Records) 2003 (CRYSTAL01)
1. Talamasca Crystal Matrix
2. GMS vs Space Tribe Alternate Future
3. Parasense Cat Kill Program
4. Neuromotor Synthetic Butterfly
5. Fungus Funk Yumi (Rmx)
6. Paranormal Attack Bionik Pulse
7. Nothing Special Rainbow
8. Suria Zara
9. Blue Magnet Eagle Grain Of Sand
First out is Talamasca (dj Lestat) from France, with his typical melodic full on trance. He released his third album this year (Zodiac, 3D Vision Records), but the track we get here is not on the album. The last couple of minutes on this track sound way too cheesy in my ears. This melody fits right into some eurodance track
Track two is a collaboration between GMS (Riktam and Bansi) and Space Tribe (Olli Wisdom). Here we get heavy banging rhythms and crazy melodies. A little different from most GMS tracks, probably because Space Tribe is involved, but you get the usual GMS take offs etc in this one too. Track 3 is by the Russian group Parasense, who released their second album (Avangaro) on Acidance Records earlier this year. I`m not a big fan of the Parasense style. The track we get here is not on the album, and it sounds a bit better than most tracks on their albums in my opinion. It is more varied and has some more melody, but it still sounds pretty minimal. Track 4 is by Neuromotor (Frederik Talaa) from France. The track starts with a few voice samples, then some rolling rhythms hits in, and a few crazy psychedelic melodies. More melodic and varied than I am used to hear from this guy.
Track 5 is by Fungus Funk (Sergei Lepa), also from Russia. This is totally dark, noisy psytrance. Mostly noisy sounds through the entire track, and some heavy stumpy rhythms. Track 6 is by a group called Paranormal Attack from Poland. This one also starts with a few voice samples, before the monotonous banging rhythms hits in. You get a few small melodies in this one, but it sounds a bit boring to me. The melodies reminds me a lot of Skazi. Then we get more Russian trance from a group called Nothing Special. This is sort of Parasense style. Minimal, dark and hard banging trance with a few psychedelic sounds now and then. Track 8 by Suria (Fred Gandarra) has a more pleasant rhythm drift. Still dark, and sort of Skazi melodies. The last track on this compilation is by someone called Blue Magnetic Eagle. This is the same guys as in Paranormal Attack from Poland, but together with one more person. This one starts really beautiful with the sound of flute. But then when the rhythm hits in we get a really cheesy melody that ruins the entire track. It sounds really terrible!
I expected something better out of this compilation. In my ears, no killer tracks to find here, only a few mediocre tracks.
