Goa Gil is out with his second mixed compilation on Avatar Records...
|
Goa Gil is probably known by most people listening to psytrance. He was one of the first djs in Goa in the 70s. A resident dj at parties on the West Indian coast, in the bamboo forest for 30 years! He is originally from San Francisco, USA. In the 80s, he started playing electronic music, which went over to goa/psytrance in the nineties. He is also known for his aim to create something more than just a disco under the trees. Now he is out with his second mixed cd on the Israeli label Avatar Records, after his successful Forest Of the Saints mix a few years back. Goa Gil sure has changed style by the years. He is now playing very dark, banging trance.
Towards The One (Mixed by Goa Gil) Avatar Records 2003 (AVA018)
1. Goa Gil – Invocation
2. Hyper Frequencies – Brother
3. Dark Nebula – Biopharm
4. Digital Talk – Xtreme Process
5. Parasense – Ritual Of Drugs
6. Penta – Butter
7. Fungus Funk – Duck The Mechwarrior
8. Neuromotor – El Guarrero Primitivo
9. The Nommos – Here He Comes
10. Crazy Lions Cult – No Name
First out is something Goa Gil has made himself. This is just an intro lasting for thirty seconds where he says something. The intro goes over to track 2 by Hyper Frequencies (Gilles Braud) from France, who just released an album. This has a voice sample saying something about brothers. The beat is rolling with little change all the way, but there are a lot of psychedelic sounds in it. Then we get a track by Dark Nebula (Luna Orbit) from Australia. This one is surprisingly melodic, but still really fast going. Full on to the bone, and changing all the way. Digital Talk (Julien Fougea) is another one of those upcoming acts from France. Here we get a track full of noisy psychedelic sounds. This might be a bit too much for some, but if you are into full on noisy trance, this will probably fit to your taste. Then we get a track by the Russian guys Parasense (Alex Kurkin and Victor Zolotarenko) who released their second album on Acidance Records this year. As always, we get sort a minimal really fast going track with noisy sounds in it. This track is also on their last album (Avangaro).
After Parasense, Goa Gil goes over to even darker trance with a track by Penta. Totally dark trance, with a lot of noisy sounds shooting in and out of the track. Fungus Funk (Serge Prilera) is another psytrance act which is becoming popular these days. If you are into trance like Parasense, check out this act. Then we get a track from Spanish Neuromotor (Fred Talaa). This one is pretty cool. Less noisy sounds, nice bass line and cool, dark melodies. After that we get a little surprise. A project by Goa Gil himself and Ariane, where they call themselves The Nommos. Another track for those of you who like the Parasense style. A lot of cool sounds in this one, but really fast going full on. The last track Goa Gil throws into this mix is another track by Fred Talaa, but here in a collaboration with Gilles Braud. Together they call themselves Crazy Lions Cult. This one has a tribal vibe, but is pretty minimal and doesn`t change much.
This mix is full of modern psychedelic trance, perfect for those of you who like dark, fast going trance. It seems like trance has divided into different styles the last couple of years, and this is one of the them. Personally Im not a big fan of this style, but I know a lot of you guys out there love it. Something for the night.
