Ultra Vista Records mixes street atmosphere in Morocco with ethnic chill out....
|
A new compilation is out on French Ultra Vista Records. In this compilation they have tried to catch the street atmosphere in Morocco, and mixed it in with eleven ethnic chilled tracks. The street atmospheres you get between the tracks are recorded in the beautiful city Marrakech and Essouira, Morocco.
Electr`Oriental Delight Vol. 2 (Ultra Vista Records 2003) UV05
1. Thud – Arabian Lounge
2. T.I.T. – Angel Voices
3. Pete Ardron – Qawwali Roll
4. Pakistani Hemline – Star
5. Aziza A – Kim Dedi
6. Twinshug – Detour (Dub Remix by Thud)
7. While – Soul River
8. Olli – Teri Meri Doshti (PK Remix)
9. While – Red Light
10. Triptych – Migrations
11. Goldenberg & Schmuyle – Palindrom
The first track starts with those street atmospheres. This track is very Arabic, with Arabian flute etc. The rhythms you get in this are deep and slow. Not very varied track, but pleasant if you want some Arabic lounge music. Track two by T.I.T. is also very ethnic, with organic instruments, some female vocals and down tempo rhythms. Again, not very varied, but pleasant lounge music. This also has some atmospheric floating sounds that make it pretty pleasant. Track 3 by Pete Ardron is nice. This sounds more like usual psychedelic dubby down tempo chill. Nice one. Track 4 is by a guy called Pakistani Hemline. This one sounds pretty funky and very tribal, with tribal drums and a nice groove. Track 5 is a pure Arabic track with a lot of Arabic singing. This sounds just like a tape I once got from an Egyptian taxi driver! But you also get some break beats with this one.
Track 6 sounds more jazzy, but in an ethnic way. Not among my favourites on this compilation. You get some vocals in it too. This sounds more like Indian vocals. Track 7 by While has more rhythm drive, with some heavy down tempo rhythms with breaks and Indian sitar. Track 8 is by someone called Olli. You would probably think of an Australian guy, but it is not. This one sounds a bit weird, with a lot of 303 alike sounds, and some ethnic vocals. Sounds almost like some psychedelic rock. Then While gives us one more track. Pleasant down tempo rhythms with tribal effects. Triptych is probably a name more of you have heard about. He give us a nice groovy down tempo track with more psychedelic sounds and a nice female voice. My favourite track on this compilation. The last track on this oriental compilation is very ethnic. Tribal rhythms and weird Arabic flute.
I was expecting something more special out of this compilation. Very interesting concept, but most of the tracks sound kind of average. But if you are interested in ethnic chill, check it out. The street atmospheres from Morocco is also nice, especially if you have been there (including me).
