Squaremeat is out with another album on Exogenic Records in Finland...
|
Exogenic Records in Finland have their own unique style of trance. Squaremeat is now releasing their new album called Jungle Boogie Party Line. Even before I had heard the music, I understood that this was something strange when I saw the cover art! A picture of an airplane and some instructions of what to do when you go on board the airplane. Maybe they got the idea on their way to goa or something?

No one beats Finland when it comes to making weird music, maybe except for Australia. Groups like Texas Faggot has shown that pretty well. Squaremeat are among those who obviously like to go new directions in psychedelic trance. First out is a break beat inspired trance track with some cool melodies and a lot of noisy sounds. Pretty massive and different from most trance released these days. Track 2 is more hard banging and full on. A lot of wonderful psychedelic sounds swirling around the banging rhythms. Hard and pushing. Track 3 is also full on, but with even more weird sounds and melodies. Maybe too weird for most people, but this will for sure make people go crazy on the dance floor. Noisy sounds and pushing rhythms. Track 4 is one of my favourites on this album. On this one they combine the totally crazy sounds with a very trancey sound picture. This is fast, melodic, full on and totally crazy trance!
Track 5 slows down a bit in the beginning, but is keeping the weird sound picture. It builds up a little and becomes pretty trancey. Varied and with a lot of cool sounds. Then we get a total change in track 6. This has some kind of housey sound picture with saxophone etc. Not my cup of tea. Track 7 is really hard banging. We get some weird melodies and variation all the way. Nice to hear so varied music again compared to most trance released these days. Track 8 starts like an old Total Eclipse track. Then we get some break beat trance. This sounds a lot like good old melodic goa trance. In my opinion the best track on this album. Track 9 starts with a voice saying; this is a place for crazy people! We continue in the melodic crazy goa trance sound scapes. Track 10 has a deep stumpy rhythm with totally twisted sounds around it. It becomes really melodic too, but in a crazy way. The last track goes slower, but still crazy. There are so many wonderful sounds in these tracks!
This is probably an album you will either love or hate. I love it! Totally crazy sound madness all the way. Varied music, fun for home listening and for full on partying. Recommended!
