Solstice is out with the third chapter in the Electronic High series. These compilations doesn`t hold back on great artists, and they show a good picture of the leading trance artists these days.
Electronic High 3. Solstice Music 2002 (SOL-WCD004)
1. Alien Project – LSD
2. 1200 Micrograms – Ayahuasca (Live Mix)
3. The Antidote – Empty Dot (Hallucinogen Rmx)
4. Koxbox – Woolectrix
5. Etnica – Seven
6. G.B.U. – Woebup
7. Logic Bomb – Jan & Jon
8. Bio-Tonic – Magic Interface (The Antidote Rmx)
9. Synthetic – Gotcha (Roof Terrace Mix)
When you see this killer list of artists, it`s almost hard to believe. But Japanese Solstice Music has obviously done a great job selecting! First out is the young star from Israel Ari Linker (Alien Project). Like GMS, he is everywhere these days. The track we get here has the title LSD. Not very original at all, but we give it a chance anyway. Typical Alien Project Track. Nice intro with cool psychedelic sounds and some voice samples. Then the massive rolling rhythms shoots off, rolling like all his other tracks. Heavy trance rhythms for the party. As usual you get a little break in the middle of the track, before the rhythms keep on rolling. This track was played over and over all over the world by leading djs last year. Track two is a live version of the Ayahuasca track released on the 1200 Micrograms album released on TIP.World last year. Not very different from the original. This track starts pretty cool with some native South-American music mixed with electronic sounds. then the noisy typical GMS sound and rhythms comes in. People are getting pretty tired of this scourge now, but it still works on the full on party. The 1200 Mics style is also more varied than most GMS track.
Track 3 is probably the track most people are curious about! A Hallucinogen remix of the Empty Dot track by The Antidote!! It`s bin a long time since we have heard any new trance from Hallucinogen (if you look away from the Younger Brother project). And Hallucinogen hasn`t lost it at all! You recognise the good old Hallucinogen up building and sounds. This is not as melodic and varied as before, but remember this is originally a track by The Antidote. the track builds up, and after a few minutes we are back to the good old Hallucinogen style none of us can ever get tired of! Really nice one! After this surprising masterpiece, we get another surprise. A brand new track by Koxbox! Not Saiko-Pod this time, but a really stumpy heavy trance track. I have to admit that I didn`t get as impressed by this track as earlier works by these guys. More minimal than usual. Track 5 is a new stumper from Etnica. Etnica was the really, really great a few years back, but they really have lost it! It sounds just boring in my ears. The same pumping hard rhythms all the way, and not much more. Don`t ask me why they still are so popular! Let`s hope they will release some good Pleiadians stuff soon. The three talented guys in The Good, The Bad & The Ugly will release an album together this year on Solstice. A very interesting collaboration between The Antidote (Serge Souque), Synthetic (Frederic Holyszewski and Dj Dimitri Nakov. The track we get here is a typical GBU track. Very intense, drifting and dark track. Very good for the party, but maybe not so pleasant for home listening.
Logic Bomb from Sweden are among the cream of talented trance acts these days. They haven`t disappointed with any track by now, and here they release another masterpiece. Pleasant trance that builds up slowly, with beautiful morning sounds and melodies. The next track is an Antidote remix of one of Bio-Tonics tracks. This one is very nice, with a lot of cool psychedelic sounds, drifting rhythms and floating vibes in between. Synthetic finishes this compilation with a track from his Synthetic album 100% Pure released on Solstice last year (A great album if you haven`t heard it!). Here we get a remixed version. More full on, very varied and groovy.
This compilation is really great. It gives you some of the masterpieces by some of the best trance acts around these days, and it will for sure give you back some of that trance festival vibe, if you went to any last year!
