Psytrance reviews
Nexus (Luis Miguel Lopes) is a psytrance artist from Portugal who releases so called darkpsy. Psytrance for the night... He has released tracks on labels such as Nabi, Doof, Ketuh, Deja Vu, Peak, Parvati and Stoneage Records. Now he is out with his debut album on a label based in Los Angeles, USA, called Kagdila Records.

This album starts really hard pushing allready after a few seconds. Here we get a typical rolling darkpsy bass line, which sounds a bit flat, but this is what a lot of people wants in the night. Above you get some tiny psychedelic sounds. It doesn’t sound very impressive, but after a while we get a sign of light (hope?) with some floating vibes, which makes the track much more trippy at once. Track 2 is very pumping. Monotonous, but massive. We also get some pretty cool voice samples. Stumping beat without much melodies, but tiny sounds swirling in and out above the bass line. Track 3 starts with some samples from a space station or something. A stumpy track with some very weird sounds above. Something for those who like it a bit twisted, but the track sounds a little bit flat and the melody reminds me of hard house... Track 4 goes back to darker vibes. Mystic, almost scary sounds, with a very monotonous beat. Also some nagging sounds, which I think is used way too much in this kind of trance.
Track 5 goes the hard direction too. Some voice samples and a hard, pumping, monotonous beat. But, we also get a little sign of light in this one, with more melodies, which helps. My favourite track on this album. Track 6 is another fast, pumping track, without much melody, just some swirling psychedelic sounds. Actually quite noisy. Pure night time vibes all the way through. Track 7 goes even darker. Pure evil sounds and laughter. Something you can scare non psytrance people with... Track 8 goes the same direction. Extremly monotonous beat with wizzy sounds above. Dark and very intense. Track 9 sounds almost like a scary movie in the beginning. The rest is very intense and rolling. Not much rest here... The last track on this album continues the intense vibes. This is the fastest track on the album (148bpm). You should probably be in good shape when this one gets played on the dancefloor...
This album is a very typical darkpsy album. Very flat, monotonous beat going all the way, with a few psychedelic sounds swirling above. Music that doesn't fit perfect for homelistening... Personally I think there could be some more variation between the tracks here, but I’m sure some fans of this "russian style" music will like it.
