Perplex "Dynamic Universe"

Top level Music reviews Psytrance reviews

Ronen Dahan (Perplex) is for sure one of the most busy artists in Israel at the moment. This time he is out with an album on Ajuca, with tracks that he has made with other artists and friends.

First out is a track originally made by Bizzare Contact (Kfir Lankry & Didi Ezra). This was released on their debut album Plastic Fantastic on Com.Pact Records earlier this year. Here we get a remix by Perplex. Typical Israeli full on morning trance, with quite fluffy, easy digestible melodies. If you are into this kind of morning full on, you will probably enjoy it, but it sounds like something we have heard many times before. Track 2 is a track Perplex has done all by himself. This one follows the morning vibes too, but with more interesting choice of melodies and sounds. Quite uplifting trance, with a strong, groovy bass line. Track 3 is made together with a more unknown artist called Kamikazi. This one goes a little bit deeper, but we are still travelling in the morning vibes. Track 4 is made together with D-Tek (David Durst) from Mexico. He is pretty well known in the full on scene for his debut album called Earth Tehnologies, released on Maia Records last year. They give us a jumpy full on track, with the kind of GMS alike full on sounds that we have heard a million times before. Not very refreshing to hear such tracks anymore, because we have been overfed of tracks like this for years already. Track 5 is made together with Fatali (Eitan Carmi), who is said to be the next upcoming "trance star" from Israel. He will release an album on BNE soon. His debut album Moments was released on Alchemy Records last year. The track we get here doesn’t sound too different from other Israeli full on acts, but it is definately one of the better tracks on this album. Groovy bass line and quite drifting melodic vibes, still in an uplifting, fluffy style.

Track 6 is made together with a group called Paranormal Attack (Rui Oliveira & Jaime Ventura). This one goes the same direction, but with some kind of hard house alike sounds, which kind of annoys me a little. The melody in this one is terrible too. Worst track on this album. Track 7 called Orgasma is made by someone called Silicon Mind. I’m not sure who it is, but probably just another side project of Perplex. It starts with some orgasmic moaning, before the groovy bass line starts pumping again. The moaning follows the track through, and we get some fluffy, uplifting melodies above. Pure morning trance that might be a hit on desert parties in Israel, but sure isn’t a hit in my speakers. Then we get a track made together with Poli. This one follows the same full on direction. Nothing new, just another one with the same bass line and fluffy sounds, with just a little bit different melody. Track 9 is another track with Bizzare Contact involved. This time they have made it together. The result isn’t very different from the rest, except for a bit more variation and some more cheesy melodies. We also get some flute sounds in there, which is a bit refreshing. The last track we get on this album is a collaboration he has done with the famous dj Dede. It starts with some female vocals, before we get thrown into the pumping full on vibes again. This one is a little bit darker and much more drifting. In my opinion, this is the best track on this album.

Here we get another very typical Israeli trance album. Pure morning trance all the way through, but in my opinion there could have been some more creativity in there. The tracks sound too much the same. For sure easy digestible music that will hit the masses in Israel early morning hours, but for home listening, this easily become quite boring.
