Music reviews
Astrix (Avi Shmailov) made great success with his debut album Eye To Eye, released on Hommega Productions in 2002. The result of this album was tons of live and dj performances worldwide. Now he is finally out with a new taste of his forthcoming album called Artcore, which will be released in a couple of months. A CD single with a couple of new tracks and some interesting remixes.
Astrix "Coolio" Hommega Productions 2004 (HMCDS4)
1. Coolio
2. Coolio (Infected Mushroom Remix)
3. Techno Widows
4. Eye To Eye (GMS Remix)
First out is a new track called Coolio. This track will not be on the album, so it’s exclusive on this CD single. It starts off with a floating, melancholic vibe, before a groovy beat starts pumping. A very drifting track with a floating, quite melodic vibe all the way through. After a few minutes, the track becomes much more massive and we get some uplifting melodies. Pure morning trance. Track 2 is a remix of the Coolio track done by Infected Mushroom (Erez Aizen and Amit Duvdevani). Here we get more of those typical massive Infected Mushroom beats and some intense sounds and melodies. For sure something for those who like the sound of Infected Mushroom. Track 3 is a new track called Techno Widows. This track will also be on the Artcore album. It doesn’t sound very different from the Coolio track, but in my opinion, this track is slightly better. A typical drifting Astrix track with floating atmospheric sounds mixed in with the massive bass line. After a while we also get some guitar, and luckily it doesn’t sound as nagging as it often does when people mix guitars with trance. Not cheesy either, like some of his other tracks. The last track we get on this CD single is the classic Eye To Eye track, which was on his first album, but here we get a remix done by GMS (Riktam and Bansi). They give us their usual full on melodic madness. Massive bass line and screaming sounds. Something for those who will never get tired of the GMS sound…
This CD single is a nice little teaser of his forthcoming album, which a lot of trancers out there are looking forward to. He has kept the groove on the right side, and hopefully he will not fall over to the cheesy side on any of his forthcoming tracks either.
