Mental Case (Beats & Pieces Records) 2004 (BNPCD01)

1. Vibrasphere – Purple Floating (Cosma Remix)
2. BLT – Clear Vision (Psycraft Remix)
3. Onyx – Red Meat (Redmix)
4. Electro Sphere – Blanko
5. Rinkadink – Kabooki Boom
6. Exaile – Experience
7. Evil Drug Lords – Resonance
8. Nes Vs. Mr. Peculiar – Graffiti
9. Zen Mechanics – Have A Good One

First out is a track originally made by Vibrasphere (Rickard Bergl๖f and Robert Elster) and released on their album Lime Structure on Digital Structures last year, but here we get a remix by Cosma (R.I.P.) (Avihen Livne). Cosma tragically died in a motorcycle accident in Goa last year. His second album Nonstop was released after he died, on Hommega Productions. The version he gives us here, sounds a lot like the style on the Nonstop album. Very drifting, with an atmospheric floating vibe all the way. Progressive trance, but in a bit harder way than the stuff we usually get from Vibrasphere. A beautiful, groovy track, perfect for the morning. Track 2 is by BLT (Yuli Fershtat) who is doing well on the progressive scene these days, and will soon be releasing a new album called "Anything U Want" on Tokyo Dance Records. The track we get here is remixed by Psycraft (Alon Algrasi and Nir Sadon). They just released a new album (New Moves) on Hommega Productions this year. Here we get more stumping full on from them. We get some voice samples and a drifting psychedelic vibe. Track 3 is by Onyx (Yanniv Gold Farb). He gives us more stumping full on. Groovy, rolling bass line with twisted, bubbling sounds jumping in and out of the track. It sounds almost nagging and this is not my cup of tea, but I’m sure some of you will like it. Track 4 is by an artist called Electro Sphere (Yanniv Shults Biton). He follows with the same style as Onyx. A heavy rolling bass line and some intense sounds nagging inside.

Track 5 is by Rinkadink (Vana Van Jaarsveld) who already released an album this year too. Here we get darker vibes for the night. Rinkadink has his own way of doing full on and a lot of it sounds pretty crazy. The track we get here varies quite a lot and a lot of the psychedelic sounds swirling in there are pretty twisted. Track 6 is by Exaile (Nir Sobol and Eyal Tzur) who has become pretty popular lately for some unknown reason. I’m not a big fan of their music. They make full on, very much like Skazi, and just like with Skazi tracks, I get this awful hard house feeling with their tracks. The track we get here is not any better than the usual stuff from these guys. Simple melodies and a bit boring bass line. Then we get a track by Evil Drug Lords (Guy Youngmn and Dudu Atrash). This track is definitely better, with more drift and not as nagging hard house sounds. Track 8 is an interesting collaboration between someone called Nes (Nisim Gabay) and the talented Mr. Peculiar (Dustin Saafield) who released a great album called Elements on the Australian label Tribe-Adelic Records in 2002. They give us a strong, full on track, with a really heavy bass line, nice melodies and great psychedelic sounds. It builds up and will for sure do good on various dance floors around the world. Nice one. The last track on this album is actually my favourite here. It is made by someone called Zen Mechanics (Wouter Thomassen). This is a really pushing track, with a totally trippy vibe all the way through. Floating sounds, cool voice samples and a very strong rhythm drift. Great finish on this compilation!

With this compilation, you get a nice selection of artists and various styles. A couple of the tracks are not my style, but you also get some really strong tracks. The cover art is pretty funny inside with the mental case note, but could obviously have looked a bit better on the outside.
