Psytrance reviews
One of my absolute favourite artists is out with his third album, and that’s something I really have been looking forward to. Orion (Jean Borelli) is definitely one of the most talented psytrance artists out there. After two great albums, Futuristic Poetry (Symbiosis Records 1997) and Metamorpheus (Phantasm Records 2001), he now releases an album on Solstice Music.
Orion "Artificial Frequencies" Solstice Music (SOLWCD007)
1. Horizon
2. Zig, Zag
3. Timeless Devotion
4. Sleepwalking
5. Viva Bahamas
6. Fast Lane
7. Body Baloons Rmx
8. Dig It
9. Ocean Of Colours (feat. Raja Ram)
The first track starts dark. Then some totally groovy rhythms start rolling. Orion sure has found the groove! Then we get swirling, twisted, psychedelic sounds, floating in and out of the track. It builds up, and he leads us into a world of mad soundscapes. Totally groovy all the way. Great start! Track 2 is a bit more pumping. This is some kind of progressive full on. It sort of builds up. Very travelling music. Dark, and trippy as hell! Track 3 is another totally groovy track. Here he ads some very floating vibes several times, and things become even more trippy. Wonderful party music! Track 4 goes the same groovy direction, but maybe a bit more full on.
Track 5 is one of my favourite tracks on this album. Fantastic travelling music for the dance floor, dark, and totally psychedelic all the way. Pure night time music. Track 6 starts floating, before the deep groovy bass lines starts rolling. Some tripped out sounds swirls in and out of the track. After a while you get this wonderful melody, sneaking up on you out of the groove. Another great track! Track 7 is a remix of the Body Baloons track. This track is one of the most full on tracks on this album. Fast and twisted, but not as varied as the rest of the album. Track 8 starts with some tribal rhythms, before the groove starts rolling again. Here you get some really twisted sounds. Still a trippy, travelling vibe, with mystic and dark sounds, perfect for the dance floor! Orion finishes this great album with a fantastic chilled track. Here he has collaborated with no other than Raja Ram! Raja has played his flute and Mr Borelli has created some mystic, dubby sounds mixed with floating vibes, some vocal samples and funky guitar sounds. After a while we also get a voice sample that I recognise from the movie called Waking Life. A great animation movie about Lucid Dreaming. It was shown at Samothraki Dance Festival 2003. Great finish!
This album is definitely one of the absolute best psytrance albums I have heard this year! Fantastic all the way! Totally psychedelic tracks, not even near any cheese, fantastic groove and great sounds. An album you can enjoy at home and for sure at parties. Recommended for every psytrance lover out there!
