Music reviews
One of our few Norwegian psytrance groups, Phase Phour (Eldar Von Essen and Robert Egeland), released their first 12 single (10 To Go) on their own label Freetransform Records last year (The first ever Norwegian psytrance label!). Now they are out with their second single release on Freetransform, called Moments. Phase Phour has already got a good reputation in the Scandinavian psytrance scene, after several good live performances at forest parties and indoor. They will also probably release an album within the next year, so watch out!
Phase Phour "Moments" Freetransform Records 2003 (FTFR02)
Side A: Moments
Moments (Gen6 Rmx)
Side B: Moment
First out on side A is the original version of their track Moments. This is a pretty stumpy track in a full on way, but not totally full on. It`s a nice track with good variation. You also get a nice female voice singing in it, which lightens up the dark vibe in the track. I heard this at one of their live shows this summer, and it seemed like it did some good at the dance floor too… The next track is a remix of the Moments track done by Gen6 from Sweden. This is actually a girl making psytrance! (pretty rare..) She released an album (Genesis) on the Swedish label Creon Records last year. This version is a bit darker and more minimal than the original. You also get les vocals in this version. I prefer the original, but if you like the Gen6 style, you will for sure enjoy this. On the B Side of this vinyl, you get a track called Moment instead of Moments. This is actually a chilled version of the Moments track, but it is totally different. A relaxing track with guitar, sounding like sitar, and the nice female voice again.
Phase Phour is a group we will for sure hear more from in the future. This record proves that they can handle both chilled and full on trance, so check it out! An album will be interesting…
