Psytrance reviews
Transient is a label I really have respect for. They are still releasing pretty many good compilations after being in the psytrance scene from the early beginning. Now they are out with a compilation for your summer party, called Psychedelic Summer, compiled by Kristian (dj Chichime).
Psychedelic Summer (Transient Records) 2003 (TRANR645CD)
1. Aphid Moon – A Kind Of Revolution
2. Mino – Computer Crime
3. Safi Connection - Planetarium
4. Eskimo – Scorpion
5. Triptych – Emergence
6. Silicon Sound – Strange planet
7. E-Jekt – Masa-El-Kiv
8. OOOD – Kundalini Rising
9. Artax – Enhanced Aspect
First out is a track by Aphid Moon (Jules Hamer) who released an album on Dragonfly this year (High Diver). I wasn`t very impressed by his album. The track we get here is not on the album. It sounds a bit better than most tracks on the album, but still it doesn`t fit to my taste. Some kind of housy trance somewhere between progressive and full on. Then we get a new track by Mino from Denmark. He likes it dark and pretty minimal, and that is sort of what you get here. There are some nice psychedelic sounds in there, but it is mostly drifting, dark and stumpy rhythms all the way. Safi Connection releases quite a lot these days. Here we get a new stumpy track, with a floating tribal vibe. Then we get a track by the young talent Eskimo (dj Junya). The track we get here is a taste of his debut album (Can You Pick Me Up?) released on Phantasm Records this spring. Beautiful, varied full on psytrance, with a lot of nice psychedelic sounds and melodies. Good track.
After some full on, Triptych (Charles Michaud) takes it slow in the beginning, before some tribal full on rhythms hits in. Nice variation, but the melodies sounds a bit ugly at times. Silicon Sound is one of my favourite full on acts this year with his fantastic melodies put in to full on heavy rhythms. He released his debut album (Pure Analog) as Silicon Sound on Moon Spirits Records this year. Here we get a new track, which is not on the album. A bit darker than most tracks on the album, but still great. Then we get a track by E-Jekt who takes to even more full on in a darker way. OOOD is a group that doesn`t release much these days, but they have released two albums a few years ago. Here we get a pretty cool track with some voice samples I have heard several times before. The last track on this compilation is by Artax (Lars Bergvall). This actually my favourite track on this compilation. Old style goa melodies mixed with modern rhythm drifts. Nice finish.
As usual from Transient, you get some pretty good tracks here, but also some average. Most of these tracks are also hard to find elsewhere, so if you are a collector, you should probably get this.
