Nano Records is based in South Africa. Last year they released their first compilation called Emergence. That compilation was appreciated by trance people from all over the world. They selected some pretty unknown upcoming acts, and released a compilation full of pretty full on melodic morning trance. This time a few artists from other parts of the world has joined the Nano team too, and you get more progressive trance, but also a lot of the morning trance they got famous for last year.
Dilation (Nano Records 2003) NANOCD002
1. The Electric Ant – Toxic Dart (Trip Wire Mix)
2. Protoculture – New Directions
3. Broken Toy – Devil`s Playground
4. Bent Sentient – Suffocation Dividend
5. Aphid Moon and The Electric Ant – Vicious Cycle
6. Green Oms – Fucked Up!
7. Rinkadink – Sheep Satellite
8. Hydrophonic – Feels Good
9. Hydraglyph – Wacho
First out is someone called The Electric Ant from UK. A pretty hard progressive trance track. It reminds me a bit of the drift you find in tracks by Bamboo Forest. Nice trancey track, but it doesn`t vary much. Track 2 is by Protoculture (N. Raubenheimer) from South Africa who also released several tracks on the Emeregence compilation. He really knows how to make groovy melodic morning trance. It sounds a bit like Alien Project, but in a lighter and more melodic way. Maybe too light for some people, but it will probably result in some good feelings for people dancing in the morning sun too. Track 3 is by someone called Broken Toy, also an act from South Africa. This is pretty melodic too, with some tribal drums above the pushing rhythms. A really floating track but it gets pretty full on. Track 4 is by Bent Sentient (also from South Africa). He makes it a bit more progressive. Pretty hard progressive trance. You also get a lot of nice psychedelic sounds and a happy melody in this one.
Track 5 is by Aphid Moon who released an album this year on Dragonfly Records called High Diver. In my opinion a pretty boring progressive house album. Here he collaborates with The Electric Ant, and things get better. A bit harder and more varied than we are used to from Aphid Moon. It starts with some stand up comedian talking about marihuana, before some really pushing rhythms pops in. The track varies and we also get some kind of melody. Pretty good track! Track 6 is by Green Oms from UK who also released an album on Dragonfly lately. He sort of has the same style as Aphid Moon. Here he brings us a progressive vibe with some really weird sounds jumping around.
Track 7 is by Rinkadink from South Africa, who has become pretty popular lately. He had a track on the Emergence compilation too. This is the darkest track on the album. Heavy rolling rhythms with some weird sounds swirling around. Full on hard banging trance. Hydrophonic (G. Tacon & R. Tacon) also released a couple of tracks on the Emergence compilation. Here they give us track 8. A really nice full on melodic trance track. In my opinion one of the better tracks on this compilation, but the last couple of minutes might get a bit too melodic for some peoples taste. They finish this compilation with another South African artist called Hydraglyph. A pretty full on track, but not totally. Really pushing rhythms, some floating melodies and a few weird sounds.
If you enjoyed the first compilation from this label, you will probably like this too. Here you get trance that is somewhere between full on and progressive trance. Some of these tracks will for sure be played on several morning sets this summer.
