Music reviews
Chill out/ambient reviews
The ninth chapter in the Global Psychedelic Trance series is out. As usual, you get a double cd, where cd 1 is trance and cd 2 is chill out/ambient music. Usually we get a lot of different artists on both cds, but surprisingly Entheogenic has chosen to release their second album on this compilation! With other words, cd 1 is various trance artists and cd 2 is the second Entheogenic album, Spontaneous Illumination!

Cd 1 is as usual the trance part of this compilation. S.U.N. Project released a new album in Japan last year called Sexperimental. This album will be released in Europe on Spirit Zone Records this year. Here we get a taste of the album. A typical S.U.N. Project groove, with some guitar sounds (as always from these rockers) and a few spaced out sounds in between. Nothing surprising with this track if you compare it with earlier releases from these guys. Track 2 is by Mekkanikka (Nicolas Oesch) who takes the more progressive side of trance. Progressive but hard and drifting. Track 3 is by Bamboo Forest (Yann Henaff & Stephane Dureisseix). I have really enjoyed their latest releases on a lot of different labels and a great live show at Samothraki last year. Sadly their album release on Flying Rhino was delayed last year because Flying Rhino went bankrupt, but hopefully they will release it this year. The track we get here is really groovy with a tribal touch of voices. The trance they make is pretty full on, but at the same time it reminds me a bit of progressive trance. Great track!
Track 4 on the trance part of this compilation is a big surprise. It is made by Etack & Archivolt (Roman Slobojankin and Alex Khorosh), and I have never heard about them before! This track sounds great. It has a bit of the GMS rhythm drift, but the sounds and melodies are much more original than any GMS track. The melodies reminds me a bit of Silicon Sound, but this is much more full on, but still without getting noisy like most other full on trance. You get a feeling of old melodic goa trance in a new way, and I love the sounds in this one! Great surprise from an unknown group. Look out for these guys in the future! Track 5 is served by Altöm (Alexis Cornet and Thomas Dubriel) who releases full on trance on a lot of different labels these days. This sounds like something between GMS and Alien Project. Full on, but not very melodic. Rolling rhythms with some noisy full on sounds around. Then we get a taste of the latest album by Spirallianz, released on Spirit Zone earlier this year. One of the better tracks from the album in my opinion. Techno influenced trance for people who like The Delta, X-Dream, Midimiliz etc. S>Range (Anthony Sillfors) from Sweden released his second album earlier this year, called Space. Here you get a taste of what it sounds like. Hard progressive trance with sounds from space. Not among my favourites on this compilation. The last track on cd 1 is by Safi Connection (Mishel Bitton). Progressive trance in a full on way, but not very varied.
As usual you get a couple of really great trance tracks with this series, but in my opinion they could have put the quality level a bit higher than this. But that`s how all the Global Psychedelic trance compilation has been.
Entheogenic – Spontaneous Illumination
Helmut Glavar and Piers Oak-Rhind surprised everybody when they released their Entheogenic album on 3D Vision Records last year. A name very few had heard about, and we got unbelievable high quality of taste full psyambient in that album. Now they are surprising us again, by releasing their second album in a compilation! Entheogenic has already warned us that this album would be even more psychedelic than their first album in an interview/article I did with them earlier this year, and I`m sure there are not few people out there who are curious of what this album will sound like.
The first track starts with the sound of running water, some voice samples, a crow and floating sounds. You get a feeling of being in the jungle. Then some tribal drums goes slowly into the track. A nice tribal voice sings a little bit and beautiful sounds floats out together with it all. You get a feeling of being out door all the way. One of the great things with Entheogenic is that it varies all the time. The track is like a beautiful voyage where you see a lot of different landscapes, but here you get a lot of different soundscapes. Wonderful melodies come and go, relaxing bass grooves you a bit, an Indian flute makes you chilled, before it changes again and goes new directions. A great listening voyage!
Track 2 starts with the sound of water again. Small psychedelic sounds crawls into the track, before some relaxing rhythms comes in. This track proves that Entheogenic has gone even deeper in this album. They combine beautiful floating melodies with tribal voices, relaxing drums and deep psychedelic sounds. Track 3 starts with a beautiful voice from a church or something. A mystical sound comes in and the sound of running water in a stream again. This is really beautiful! A tribal voice comes in too, and while listening to this you get a feeling of just floating in the sky! Entheogenic are experts on making these totally wonderful melodies. It is hard to explain what it sounds like, but if you have heard their first album and ad some more ethnic influences, maybe you can imagine.
Track 4 is even more dreamy. It`s like travelling on a cloud of beautiful melodies. Then you get some twisted psychedelic melodies, before the track takes another direction again. The sounds become really happy, before we go back to deeper sounds. You just can`t get tired of it because of all the variation! Track 5 is already released before on the Module 01 compilation on 3D Vision Relax. Here it is called Invisible Landscapes, but on the Module 01 compilation it is called Impossible Landscape. But it sounds pretty similar. This track is really varied, and it has some more banging rhythms than usual from these guys. Great track. Track 6 slows down again, and we get right into the jungle mood again, with sounds of water and birds singing. Then a beautiful flute comes in, together with the sound of a choir and deep dub rhythms. This is so relaxing. Then a female opera singer sings a little bit now and then. A beautiful melody comes in and a new voyage is on. The last track on this beautiful album is a totally relaxed track. Crystal clear floating sound with a mystical vibe. A really nice chilled finish for a great album!
These two guys show again what musical talents they are! No bad tracks to find on this album! I will not say if this is better or worse than their first album, because that`s hard to decide! This album probably require some more of the listener than their first album, because this is a bit deeper and more psychedelic. So if you enjoyed their first album, you will for sure enjoy this one too and be able to go even deeper into the beautiful sound of Entheogenic! This album will for sure be one of the high lights this year, and at least where ever I will be this summer, this album will be with me. Recommended!
